I am currently experiencing a problem with my pioneer wing's power inflator unit. It is the stainless steel model and when I use the power inflator to inlate the BC it has this tendancy to exhaust gas from the mouth piece, you can hear it and feel it. The BC was purchased early Feb. 2006 only has about 50 dives on it, is still under warranty and is well looked after, is there a home remedy fix for this problem or should I send it back?

Thanks

Perhaps the o-ring that seals the oral inflation port is not sealing correctly?
http://www.halcyon.net/manuals/halcyon_inflator04_v1.pdf

That's the manual for it. If you look, you can take it apart and check out the o-ring integrity. It isn't that hard to do, you'll need a flat-head screwdriver and an allen-key to hold the oral inflator button from moving while you unscrew the screw.
Good luck!

Thanks mate.

Mine crapped out and started auto-inflating after maybe 30 dives. I rebuilt it and have some champagne bubbles coming out that I haven't addressed yet, but no auto-inflation. All in all, I'm not too pleased with it. The crummy plastic ones never seem to die on me. Ok, eventually they do. But they are just about free. I have about 4 of them lying around.

My personal experience with the SS inflator is that it has a tendency to corrode if exposed to salt water. The inflators would start to stick and if you ignored it, it would start to leak into the wing or bubble out of the inflator button. There are o rings on the shaft that the button is attached to. With the corrosion in the metal parts, the orings need to be lubricated more. A posting on a different forum suggested filling the gas chamber of the inflator with silicon grease. I have followed his suggestions with all the SS inflators in our dive group (8 SS inflators) and have had no problems since. I used the heavy silicon grease that Scubapro used in their EPK kits. I would suggest using something similar to this grease.

eelpout, out of curiousity, how often do you service those SS inflators?

Hey Robbie,

Just my humble opinion but dump that POS stainless steel inflator.
I've been through four of them (one pre-recall, three post-recall).
Two of them lasted about 20 dives each, one failed on the very first dive
and I dumped the fourth before it had a chance to fail. Both my singles
and my doubles wing now have the old style plastic Halcyon inflators installed.

Same here ... Halcyon makes very nice wings (I own three of them), but the SS inflators was not one of their better ideas ...

My SS inflator is blowing bubbles from somewhere inside the housing =( It is one of the newer models with the groove cut in it, was hoping I could use it forever and proudly proclaim that I had no problems with the SS inflator. I don't trust the LDS to fix it, have to wait till I get home.
