i have bought the new Halcyon Eclipse with the backplate and single tank adapter and i have different sizes of bottles that i dive, on stell 15liter and one steel 18liter. My problem is that when i connect everything on and put the backplate on my back, it feels as if the bottles are lose. i get a movement of the bottles from one side to the other. i have tried tightening the screws on the adapter as hard as i can with my hands(no tools used), but with no result. I have tightened the tankbands as hard as possible(i had to use my feet to push away, to be able to close the band), still no change. Now i am running out of ideas. Could the problem be in the adaptor itself? Is 15 and 18liters steel tanks to big for the single tank adaptor? Anyone with any suggestions how to solve this?

kind regards Jonny

I've used a 15 litre bottle with a single tank adapter and never found a problem. Are you sure it's loose or is it maybe rocking back and forth?

Hi Jonny... I use the Eclipse with a 15ltr, and the weighted STA, which is a slightly different shape to the standard.
One thing I would suggest, is soaking your tank bands first. They do stretch once in the water. This may account for the tank slipping.

Jonny,

You may have the harness too loose. Whenever you are horizontal in the water is there approximately one fist clearance between the chest straps and your chest? If there is much more than this, then you will likely find that to be the problem. I only dive with a backplate, and find the whole rig very stable.

hi, thanks for the replies, but maybe i should have clarified, the problem does not occur while i am in water only, as soon as i put it on my back and i twist abit with my upper body, the tank feels loose.

Sell it.

If the STA is tight, and the cam bands are tight with no slippage, then I wouldn't be concerned. If you make the cam bands too tight, you are most likely going to break one.

i have found the source of the problem. The reson it is not stable is due to the two plates that goes on the screw inbetween the STA, wing and BP. When i took everything apart, i found that the guy who sold it to me had.
1. STA
2. Brick nr1
3. Brick nr2 that is for locking so it will not unscrew
4. wing
5. BP
6. the bolt

i changed this configuration from 1-6 to 1, 4, 5, 2, 3, 6 and now it does not feel lose any more, the thing is though that i am not sure if this is the way it is supposed to be.

I think you've got it right. Such a simple solution, but it hadn't occurred to me that someone might assemble the rig wrong like you describe in the first place.

If that lock washer (your item 3) isn't sitting next in line right under the wingnut (your item 6, I assume?) the wingnut is unlikely to stay tight short of welding it in place. Those two washers will do nothing sandwiched between the STA and wing.
