i have a ikelite housing for my 40d and had it for about 7 months and have noticed what looks like a hairline crack coming from the bottom port clip which is traveling towards the corner of the housing,i am wondering if anyone else has en-counted this problem?

Take a photograph of the area and send it to to Ikelite. They may be able to set your mind at ease very quickly if it's only a molding mark. If not, they have had great reviews in their customer support / warranty practices.

Ive got a 450D housing here and its new (a few weeks old) and ive noticed the same straight line marks coming out from both port locks. Ive marked with a pen and they dont seem to be enlarging and it appears to be on the ouside only.

Im not aware if there were on it out of the box as i didnt check that closely but would be interested in the solution to this. Photographing them maybe hard due to the reflection etc in the case. Im in Egypt for months too so sending it back to ikelite isnt an option.

Definitely agree with bhalah's comments - contact Ikelite for help - they're the experts and will tell you how to proceed. They are great to work with - their customer service is fabulous. They may want to see the housing to ensure there's no issue - but they have quick turn around (speaking from experience).

Not really an option from here. "Quick" may mean 4-5 months and several hundred dollars in shipping :)

Try looking at the possible cracked areas with a magnifying glass and strong light. Look at the crack obliquely (from an angle) and try shining the light through it back towards yourself. You might be able to see if it penetrates the thickness of the housing wall.

I would bet that String's marks are just mold marks, but of course observe them closely.

Are these cracks in areas of the hosing which might get bumped repeatedly? Are they in areas where the latching mechanism is putting a strain on the housing material?

Putting a drop of with cyanoacrylic glue (crazy glue) or an acrylic solventcementmight seal and stop the crack. Though Ikelite should be your first contact before doing this.

Best device if you have access to one is a slit lamp(biomicroscope)
