H2Odessey First Stage Problem

I originally bought a 6 cu ft. bottle with H2Odessy first stage. I have since switched the first stage to a 30 cu ft. bottle. Now, I was previously using a mini gauge that simply screws into the HP port on the first stage. Since the gauge can be hard to read underwater I'm going to replace it with a small HP hose with a steel gauge. Now, here's the problem: It appears that the HP port on the H2Odessey is always OPEN, meaning the HP line I wish to connect to the 1st stage will always be charged. Is this bad??? After all, the mini gauge was always charged it just didn't have a hose between it and the 1st stage.
