I had to go into work early and I missed Raleigh based Gypsy's spring cleaning sale today from 10am to 5pm. They were also cooking bbq chicken and plenty of pool stuff. I was just curious if anyone went and what kind of sales I missed hehe.

Crap!!!! I can't believe I missed that sale! That is what I get for not checking their site more often, I also need to get them to update my email info for the newsletter. Maybe Herman showed up for the sale and let us know of any good deals they might have left over.

You can go to the website and sign up for the newsletter from there. Here is the link for the newsletter, which is where I heard about it: http://www.gypsydivers.com/eLists/ContactUsScuba.htm

I'm taking the Nitrox class on Wednesday, April 20th, anyone else from scubaboard going to be there?

I'm not taking the Nitrox class because I took it last year. I did see that they are offering the deep/wreck diver course at the end of May and early June. I'm interested in taking this one. How about you Chris?

I did not make it either, was at the coast getting my boat ready for the summer. I got more dive gear than I can use as it is.....would have liked to have one of Big Joes chickens however.

Don't forget the UW photographers meeting on April 24th at 2pm. Bring your gear and camera.

Herman -

I am thinking about going if I don't make it down to the coast. I am partly interested in giving my gear a pre-season test and partly interested in doing a little better with my meager camera setup (housed Nikon CP4300, no strobes). Can you give me a brief play-by-play about what goes on at a meeting (ie. 15min intro talk, 20min in pool taking pictures, 45min talking about pictures...or whatever)?

Can you jump in the pool solo?

Thanks
Rich

I was seriously considering it to jump start my NC coast diving experience, well start it I mean. I'm beginning to seriously doubt that I would be able to get off two weekends in a row, with one of them being on memorial day hehe. The schedule is May 22nd for the classroom/quarry work. Coastal charter/check out dives are on May 28 and 29th. I think they require AOW, which for SSI is 4 specialties and 40 dives. I'd be a little nervous about that since I haven't done any dives since my cert this past fall.

I was in the shop today, and as far as I can tell, the deals are still going on from the sale. The ones I saw were:

20% off Henderson wetsuits
15 or 20 off Princeton lights (can't remember which)
I think there was something on Oceanic computers but I'm not sure. There was also a few deals for signing up for trips, put down a deposit and get a 50 dollar store credit etc.

Hey Herman,

How did you like the wind at the coast this weekend? I was out at Cape Lookout on an adventure, our group was the only group on the island. We had gale force winds on Friday and it was really windy Saturday as well. It was great! This was not a diving trip so the winds just made it that much more fun.

What we do is set up our gear and hit the pool for about an hour of shooting Dave's atificial reef. Tanks and weights are included-bring your own gear. If you have any questions, Bruce or myself will be happy to answer them. The "reef" has a good many oppertunities for wide angle and macro shots and you can practice shooting the rest of us taking pictures. After about an hour, we dry off and display the photos using a computer and projector. We discuss what is right and what could be improved with the pictures, things like composition and lighting. We also go over cleaning up the pictures in photoshop. We do go off on tangents if people have specific questions. Dave usually orders in pizza during the discussion time. We are typically there for 3 hrs or so. The range of equipment is from basic reef masters to one setup in the 8K range. Come join us.

Unless I can jump in with my UW disposable camera then I won't be making this one. Hmmm.....that is a thought. I'm sure Dave would get a kick out of that sight. :D
