Just bought an intigrated system.
I figure , I'd toss them in a stuff sack and be done with it.

Ziplock your weights in double or triple bags to avoid rust stains and use them in the integrated system.

I recomend this for a temporary solution, as soon as you got some cash, use weights designed for scuba, they are not that expensive.

Remember that scuba is a gear intensive sport and it's a money pit, you never stop buying or replacing gear.

I went to do a quick and dirty dive to find an object and showed up with all my gear except a weight belt. I had a bunch of folks waiting on me. I noticed a rip-rap bulkhead made from broken chunks of cinderblocks. I entered at that location and once out of sight slid half a cinderblock on each arm and made the dive. After a couple of minutes the job was done and I dropped the "weights" at the surface. I was the only one that noticed. When I win the lottery I might pour some gold weights.

If you clip gym weights to your BC, just make sure they are accessible uw in case you need to dump them in a hurry. Weights should be the last thing you struggle with during a cesa.

?
If you dump weight it's not a CESA any more!

The C is for "Controlled".

You should have been taught to keep all your equipment in place during a CESA.

has anyone figured out a cost effective way to hold scuba grade weights in the weight pockets?

Weight-integrated BCs vary considerably by manufacturer. What kind of BC do you have?

Much cheaper than the pre-made softies.

If you mean Sea Soft weights, I don't recommend them. They take forever to dry and don't rinse easily. I also have some weights that use a fine mesh fabrique. They rinse easily, dry very quickly and are a little cheaper than the Sea Soft "softies". In SoCal, Sport Chalet sells them. If you're going to make weights, get a mesh fabrique.

yeah- I'm a backpacker/camper and I have some mesh fabrique stuff sacks that I think I'll try.
I don;t think I'm ready to venture into making my own weights. Just need something functional yet inexpensive to throw lead weights in.

Gym weights work great for counteracting the body’s buoyancy.

Normally, they are attached to chains and wrapped around the ankles.:11:
