I'm travelling to Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macau region in early March for a vacation. Would it make any sense to try to get underwater in there? According to net search Hong Kong offers some diving possibilities, but how is the visibility and water temperature at this time of year? Any recommedations?

Not sure where you are coming from, but the water is still cold here in HK. Probably not that much warmer in March. I've got a club dive coming up this weekend but suspect water must be around 15-18c. Visibility in general in HK waters is not that good and most of the worthwhile dives are pretty shallow. I've only been out here for a little over a year, so maybe some of the other HK residents can chime in with their advice...

Catch a direct fly from HKG or Guangdong to Phuket. It's 3-4 hours..and you will be in Paradise

for leisure dive in HK, you can join local dive shop itinerary to somewhere call Pedro Blanco but you need a proper travel document.
Pedro Blanco is located south side Hong Kong a 60 seas nautical mile far away island, April to July has many all kinds of fish groups every year, Such as whale shark etc...
