Typhoon Pongsona hit Guam head on just as it turned into a super typhoon. Sustained winds of over 150 mph, gusts well beyond that. My house lost half of its typhoon shutters, and then two windows. My wife got cut bad on her hand by the flying glass, but is OK. Our phone line just came on, but don?t know for how long. Power is out island wide and so is water. I am currently running on a generator. Major damage all over the island. The Navy hospital is damaged. When we were there this morning saw cars over turned, one of their ambulance thrown across the street on it?s back. Guam Memorial Hospital sustained major damage. One of the fuel tanks at the Cabras tank farm blew up last night and is still burning. Gas is going to be in short supply. Please keep us all in your thoughts and prayers.

glad you weren't seriously injured. i was in typhoon pamela - march 1976 i think and i would not want an experience like that again.
on the other hand, a 40,000 ton white star ocean liner, the carribia, busted loose from a tug and sunk right at the tip of apra harbor and quite a few divers went down and look-seed it in 20-60 feet of water.

I've been wondering how you and your family were. Prayers have been flowing since that thing showed up on radar!!!

Glad to hear ya'll are OK. Keep us posted on the progression of things and take care of yourself!

BTW...did you ever get your Dee-Rag?

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. The island is in very bad shape. I've been through a dozen or so typhoons and a bad hurricane and this was the worse one that I remember. Lots of people without homes here, so we feel very lucky to end up with some damage to our house and trucks. It could have been much worse.
On a lighter note, yes I did get the Dee-Rag, thank you very much. It went on its inauguration dive last weekend. Had a few fish wink at me I looked so good ;-}

My thoughts are with you as you put things back together.

Good luck.

Chad

You have my sympathies, I was there (Guam) for Omar back in '93. I gre up in NW FL and have been through my share of hurricanes, but Omar scared the crap out of me. Didn't help any that I was a young Navy wife who had been on island for all of a week. Or that my spouse left for Japan with the squadron.
