Glad to hear about Eric. He was ok, but he really should answer his email. The boy has missed some business. What I have read, is that non-NMI residents have to dive with local guides. I'm sure that there are ways around that, though.

There are ways around that issue, however I don't know any shops that will rent gear to visitors without also supplying a guide. The best way would be to hook up with some of the MANY local divers. Check out Marianas Dive - Frontpage

Two of our main shore dive sites are pretty easy for competent divers, but the Grotto definitely requires an experienced guide and should be considered an advanced dive.

Good information to know. I don't mind paying a guide or joining up with some locals (I'll buy the beers after). It sounds like our best bet for an English speaking guide would be Speedy Tertle?

I see what you mean. I've sent two emails with no reponse. I guess I'll give it some time and then try to call.

Hi everyone.
well. thanks for all the info.
I am an experinaced diver, currently in japan.
My friend (has >2000 dives) and I are planning to come to your beautiful island (saipan) on Dec 20-28.
Would totally appriciate any advice on where to dive shops.. also if you would recommend staying in saipan all 7 days or going to chuck/yap/guam.. (although I hate to waste time flying..)..
thanks all, and I would really appriciate phone numbers or emails of dive shops (if you recommend them) as I am having a hard time getting ANY HITS on line..
thank you all
A.
