Assuming the hole size in backplates haven't changed since the 90's, using a #4 grommets would work.

Then again you should measure the size of the holes in the plate or the existing bolts attached to it, and look for grommets that would provide proper size holes, because depending on the vendor you use the same #4 grommet "after setting" will produce a 1/2" or a 9/16" hole.
 
I'd like to set grommets to things to attach to my backplate and want to make sure that the grommet hole isn't too large that book screws will go right through. I believe the grommet on my wing is 1/2" as well. It is a Dive Rite plate and not all of the holes around the edge have the same diameter.
 
Ok, so look for stainless steel #4 with specs of 1/2" hole after setting.

Also if you ever have a situation with screws going through, add a wide flange washer, just make sure not to use dissimilar metals.
