Thanks all for your warm welcome.
Thanks also to Wolfshark for your comments about UW photography. I've done a couple of dives (in Sydney) since my previous message, and I'm fairly sure that having a camera will be more of a hindrance to me rather than an asset. While I've decided for now not to get a camera, I may revisit the issue again when I've logged more dives.
I'll definitely be writing of my trip to the GBR. Watch for it.

Hi best places to dive around the gold coast are Julian rocks at Byron Bay, Cook Island Tweed Heads and North and Sth Stradbroke Islands and Moreton Island Brisbane dont waste your money diving Surfers Paradise
