Hi Guys,

I'm a novice diver from the Northeast US. I have been on the PADI
"Adventure Dives" 5 times, where you get a lesson on the boat and then 2 dives that day. (3x in Thailand, 1x in Mexico and 1 in Belize.) I am a water rat though, having been on competive swim teams from age 5 through college, and I still swim a few times a week.
I also like to "free dive" and have been down as far as 30 feet with only some goggles.

Anyway, I would like some guidance on where to post my next thread.
I am looking for some advice on a getaway I am planning for next April. I will be off from work from April 3rd through the 12th (teacher-April Break) and would like to take the oppurtunity to become Open Water certified. I am looking for the cheapest NON AMERICAN destination from New York. The cost factors I'm considering include flight, lodging, certification, some dives afterward, meals, drinks, etc. So far I have thought about Roatan, Panama, Mexico, and Jamaica. Roatan seems to be the cheapest once on the Island, but flight are upwards of $700.
Anyway, I'm not sure where to post this thread as it doesn't fit into any specific geographic location. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance!!

Andy

Well, it looks like you're looking in general at Caribbean sites, so that might be a reasonable place to put the request.

Andy,

Good to have you here on ScubaBoard. The caribbean is very nice and offers great diving. I would say Grand Cayman is nice, but very expensive. My suggestion would be to look at something along the lines of Cozumel, Playa Del Carmen, or Isla Mujeres. I've heard that Roatan is a good vacation, though. Best of luck in planning your dream vacation.

Welcome to the ScubaBoard! Have you checked with your local dive shop to see if they offer spring break trips or work with a travel sevice.
Every other year I go to Cozumel for Spring Break from Denver on an all inclisive package runnning $1600 air/motel/taxes/airport tranfer/meals/ drinks and oh 5 dyas of 2 tank diving and a night dive with unlimited shore diving...Fiesta Americana and Dive House

welcome aboard
