Not quite the diving capital of the world but if you want a challenge in 0 vis water, just try out the Ohio River (with a rescue rope tied around your waist).

Been diving off and on for 30+ years and recently started diving more frequently. Had to upgrade equipment and was amazed at the improvements, especially BCDs. My wife is starting to dive again as well now that we are empty nesters, so looking for some new great experiences. SHe hates quarry diving so we'll just have to go find warmer water!

Dove some of the wrecks off North Carolina last year. Headed to Guanaja Island in Honduras this year - staying at a house on a rock in the middle of the bay called Dunbar Rock (interested if anyone has been/dove there).

Started looking at equipment for my wife and ended up finding this board. Hope to be a steady user but probably not a super-user.

Other interests - we own a pair of 1973 Triumph TR6's (his and hers), love to snow ski, white water Kayak, golf, bowl and used to do a little motocross racing until I broke my back 2 years ago (I'm a walking T12 survivor).

Looking forward to blowing more bubbles!

Sounds like you guys would love a week long trip to Bonaire. Good way to get a lot of diving in at your own pace, fine visibility coral reef diving usually with little current and definitely warm water.

Richard.

Welcome from yet another Kentuckian. There are other places to dive that have slightly better vis. You are about an hour from Falling Rock Park (Joe's quarry), in LaGrange, KY. The vis ranges from near 0 to 20ft or so. You are also about 3hrs from Pennyroyal quarry in Hopkinsville, KY that has vis between 15ft- sometimes over 50ft & about 4-5 hrs Mermet Springs quarry just north of Paducah, KY in IL,... Vis is usually 10- 20 ft most of the time.

Thanks tstorm - I actually live 5 miles from Falling Rock and have been there several times, along with several trips to Pennyroyal and one to Mermet Springs. Hae also made the underground mine dive at BonneTerre. Guess when you live in the hearland you find every little water hole you can to blow bubbles.

drrich2 - sad to say we had some friends living on Bonnaire about 10 years ago but never made the trip. Now that we are empty nesters are friends have moved on...but definitely on our diving bucket list.

Appreciate all the feedback.

I budget around $2,000/apiece for a Bonaire trip, counting airfare, meals, etc... If you do a Search for Bonaire and drrich2 on the forum, you can turn up some of my old trip report threads. Been 4 times; loved it.

My wife & also my main dive buddy are sea sickness prone, so traditional charter boat trips are problematic for them and Bonaire works out better.

Personally, I've enjoyed Bonaire a lot, but also brief diving in Cozumel, St. Thomas, Costa Maya and Grand Cayman. Had a couple of fun dives off eastern Puerto Rico, too. There are lots of fun places to go.

Richard.
