Hello,

Well, like, I'm a Leo... and uh, my qualifications are few, and uh...well, I recently returned to SCUBA after 32 years away, and I've been kicking myself into insensibility for this past couple weeks, trying to get over my procrastination, laziness and wrong-headedness that has kept me away so long.
I am so ashamed!
On a brighter side, glad to be back into a completely new world, a brave new world of bioengineered gills and capsules of Fast-Nitrogen fixing bacteria as our new found symbionts to fight the bad effects of Mr. Nitrogen.
Yes, diving has come a long way since I left; why, back in my previous life as a diver we chewed rocks for air, now they have tanks which fit handily on a Ballast Control Device, and there are computers to tell us if we're following our dive plans.
Oh my yes! It's "A Brave New World".
I'm on a quest for information and as I cross highly relevant forums, I join.
I did not notice any boxes for Military trained divers to check as I checked my current PADI box for certifying agency. Why is that?
I came back to add that I was SS/DV, I notice there are other former Submariners out there, guess I'll have to see whether we have a forum to post our many and repeated, but high quality lies.

Tom

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

Well, now that you have joined us here at ScubaBoard your shame has been lifted and your family will no longer be the bearers of that shame for generations to come! :D

Glad to hear you've returned to diving. I recently returned to diving as well and have found this board to be a wealth of information and a great source for new buddies willing to dive with "the rusty guy".

El Orans has pointed you to the best place to make the suggestion that "Military Trained" be added to the list of training organizations. I recently made the suggestion to add Los Angeles County to that list, since they were the world's first certification agency and are still around.

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum.

:mostlysun Hello there Tom, my name is Matt and I wanted to welcome you to the community. Glad to hear you got back into diving. I think this is the best board on the internet for divers and a great place to find information. The people on here make it a really friendly place. It’s a great place to see what’s going on with divers. Just wanted to make you feel welcome! Take care. :butnhome:

Since I joined yesterday I have been thinking that I should have chosen Rip {as in} Van Winkle for my user name. I am still trying to catch up with the changes to SCUBA since I left it in 1972, and I've been surfing and reading (especially the equipment) for almost a year now.
Nitrox, TriMix, BCDs, dive computers...
My brain is full, but I can't quit.
Thanks for all the greetings,

Tom

Welcome to the board!

It's still water and the bubbles go up.

Howdy!

And welcome to SB - the biggest, the best, the fastest growing, and :D the friendliest!

I see that you've already been exploring our other forums. Great! :thumb: I'm off in Alantic Beach NC tonight to dive WWII wrecks this weekend, but brought my laptop with me. Scuba is my sport, but SB is my obsession - and I'd hate to be away all weekend if I didn't have to?!

PM me if I can help you learn your way around; that is - click my username to the upper left, then follow the prompts to send me a "Personal Message."

Thanks for the greetings, I was away diving this weekend too and don't have a laptop yet, so a slow appreciation grew. Or is it, my appreciation had opportunity to slowly grow, or.. Oh! never mind.
Obviously I need a laptop too, needed it before I started going webby or web crazy or what ever, but now I need one to store dive data as well.
See there, a real reason to buy another toy! Before I just needed it for work and study, now there's something important involved.
Advance warning, I'll be gone next weekend too...
Diving again.
Darn! It's a hard life, but I'll try to keep a stiff upper lip.
