My name is Kevin and I'm checking in from sweltering Southern California. This is my first official post but I've been perusing the board almost every day.

Finished my open water certification in June in Laguna Beach, then went on vacation to Turks & Caicos where there was a PADI dive center at the resort. That's all it took to get me completely hooked!

I just purchased gear and Scubaboard has been a huge asset in helping me get a quick education as well as sanity check my equipment choices (along with some very helpful input from my dive instructor and another diving friend). I wound up with a Transpac II, Atomic B1 & SS1, a Viper computer and a few other goodies. Can't wait to be in the water again - it's been a month and it seems like an eternity.

Thanks for listening!

And from Catalina where it was reasonably cool today... considering!

Welcome from the city of Orange.. where the closest thing to a body of water is a resovior!:mean:

Where it is also warm.

Why has it been a month since your last dive? SoCal has some awsome diving. The www.sandeaters.org has a dive scheduled for every Sunday at 8:00 somewhere between Laguna and Malibu (with the occasional San Diego, Venura and Catalina dive) and there is an Orange County group that dives every Staurday.

I go just about every week somewhere depending upon the swell model and conditions.

Beach diving is fun. Ok, so its not as easy as boat diving, but it is inexpensive and fun and gets you in the water more.

Welcome Kevin. I'm in La Jolla but grew up in San Clemente so I dive Shaws quite a bit. When the surf is up in Laguna come on down to La Jolla shores and dive the canyon. It's a different experience and an easy dive. Well, besides the long surface swim, about 200 yards. I always take my time (because I'm out of shape) and enjoy the sights on the swim out.

Thanks for all the posts and welcomes. :) As much as I'd like to be diving every weekend, I also need to keep a good balance between this great hobby and my wife and two kids. I bought the Advanced open water book and am going to do my deep dive mid-September during a Catalina trip on the Pacific Star (out of Redondo Beach). I'm definitely planning a lot of shore diving in Laguna also, since my instructor dives there regularly and it seems like a good (and free) place to hone my skills (plus it's 25 minutes from my house). I'm planning to do the underwater nav, peak performance buoyancy, search and recover, and night dives to complete the AOW certification. I keep telling myself this isn't a race, but I'm finding I just don't want to slow down! I took a quick business trip to Vegas today, and was probably the only one on the plane reading a dive computer manual for leisure. :newbie:

Greetings from Rancho Santa Margarita!
I try to dive Laguna every Sunday. Mostly Crescent Bay, but I am open to most of the easy shore spots. Drop me a line and we can hit the water!
