Greetings from Okeechobee!

Well, it was two long days in the truck, but we made it!

Friday I packed every tool that I owned into my new 20’ lowboy gooseneck that I had put four foot sideboards on the previous weekend, and covered it with a tarp, that was well secured with battens and deck screws.

Saturday, we were up early for coffee and were on the road by 6 am and on the way south. Traffic was very light down I-75 to I-69 and around past Lansing. The roads were in good shape and we were on our way south, so feeling good.

Spent about 15 hours on the road that first day, as pulling the trailer I normally only run about 65mph or so. The route was I-75 to I-69 through Indy, to I-65 to I-24, back, to I-75 right at the Georgia line. The truck with the new K&N cold air system and Flowmaster muffler worked very well. I was getting around 10-11mpg on the trip, so we would stop for fuel every 200 miles or so. Saturday evening found us coming down off the mountain into Chattanooga as the sun set. We finally stopped for the evening in Dalton, Georgia and found a place to sleep.

Sunday was much the same. We passed through Atlanta first thing in the morning at just above the legal limit, and were the slowest ones on the road. (it seems like speed limits are kind of a ‘suggestion’ around Atlanta) and had no problems on I-75 into Florida. We kept at it all day, taking I-75 to the Florida Turnpike and the Turnpike as far as Yehaw Junction, and the US-441 south into Okeechobee.

The day was a bit shorter, and we arrived at Okeechobee in full daylight. Found a room at the Holiday Inn Express (read EXPENSIVE for what we got) and went and found some dinner.

Today, Monday, we will take delivery of our 5th wheel trailer and place it in the Zachery Taylor RV park for a while while we do other business related things. We are supposed to have our lease on the building today, and will be able to drop the trailer full of tools and stuff in the new building by the end of the day.

The rest of the week will be spent getting the place habitable and fixing fences and things at the new property. The fence needs major repairs and the building needs a good cleaning and such. My work is cut out for me, but we are HERE and are starting our new life with a smile and a prayer.

Hey Tom
I only know you from your posts. Best of Luck in your new location.

Jim

Glad to hear from you my friend. Sounds like things are progressing well.

Oh yeah,
Cyril is doing fine and has claimed the plane cabin at Gilboa for his own.
A couple of people have pics and should be posting them before too long.

Good luck and God bless,

Glad that you made it down there ok. You were missed at the Meet and Greet!
Don and hope to catch up with you down there in Florida one of these days. Maybe we can go by Gilboa and bring Cyril down for a visit!

Good to see the arrival went well, best of luck on getting up and running soon !!!

Hey I know you from only your post but wish you the best!I try to make it to Florida 4-5 times a year! and have been to the conks X-Mas party,a real GREAT GROUP!
Man you got the springs & caves close by, for the winter dives, and to me the Atlantic is the best side to dive! not to get any one mad,but the Gulf can be like the big pond up north after a bad blow=not the best vis!
If you get down some time to PalmBeach, not a bad ride-see my pal's at Splashdown Divers in Boyton Beach! The boat is a BLAST! The Reefs are FINE! Tons of life! And the Boats DM "Scubakevdm" Makes you feel at home!
Hope all goes fine, and get ready for some heat! time to set your body temp to Florida temps!
Brad

If I come down, help you clean and mend the fences can I sleep at your house while on my dive vacations for free? I shouldn't be there any more than 50 weeks a year or so... :eyebrow:

Good luck to you!

By the way, I thought ALL Michigan drivers think of speed limits as mere suggestions.

Bad news is, we moved out of a 2800 sq ft house, into a 270 sq ft 5th wheel trailer, so the best I can offer is the sofa, which folds out to a 'poor' queen bed.

Good news is, the lot is all cleaned up, and we finished fixing the fence today. Tomorrow it's electrical wiring and phone lines to the office. Saturday is "other" stuff.
If you are in the area, stop by and we'll find something for you to do....

Thanks for the note!

Hmmmm! Meet & Greet IV Saltier and further South. I guess its never to early to start planning.

Glad to hear things are going so well for you Tom, don't worry about Dave a few of us veterans took him under our wings to help with the seperation anxiety. Certainly wasn't the same without you, but we did manage to toast one for the missing divers.

Cyril looks like he hasn't aged a bit although some mean old dog chased him from his original perch.
