Thought I'd finally pay attention to the message that pops up at the top of the screen every time I log into the Board, and post a first message. I got my open water C card through DJ's Scuba in Lyons, Illinois in the summer of 2009. Dan and Cindy Howard, the owners, are absolutely great, and all their instructors really know their stuff. The bug bit really hard with me and, although I'm in my early 50's, I "dove right in". After Open Water, followed up pretty quickly with Advanced -- part through DJ's and then finished on the Cuan Law, IMHO the best liveaboard on the planet, in the BVI this past February. Also have nitrox and dry suit - my wife and I have a place in Seattle, where I plan to retire, and dry suit is a must. She just got her C a couple of weeks ago, and we're going to Costa Rica for a week in November.
Going to be doing rescue diver at the beginning of next season, and then add a couple of more to reach Master Diver, with ultimate goal of DM. Why at my age, some people ask? It would be easy enough to say, why not. But ultimately it's because it brings together two passions -- my love of learning and my love of diving.
So there it is -- my first post. Happy diving to all.
