Hello everyone!

This is my first post. I am going to start PADI OW on Feb. 6th in the western burbs of Chicago. (Berrry Aqua Paradise) My family is going on a cruise to G. Cayman, Cozumel, and Roatan during spring break this year. I LOVE to snorkel and always wanted to try diving and decided that this was the time. I am forty-seven. I talked by boss into taking the lessons with me since my wife doesn't want to try it since she is not all that comfortable in the water. I had to get a doctor's sign-off because of high blood pressure and other meds.

I have read quite a bit on this wonderful resource and would like any comments on my plan. I do of course plan to ask my instructor for his take as well. These plans assume of course that I get through the instruction/pool work. By the way I think the PADI CD course is really a nice study guide.

I read that I can split my OW referral dives between two places. I am planning on doing one and two in Grand Cayman at the Eden Rock Dive Center. Dives three and four are planned for Roatan. We are heading over to a resort (Lost Paradise) in West End for the day so my family can snorkel etc.. I need to pick an operator over there but would like some guidance. Should I just ask Lost Paradise to handle this? I booked going over there with "Salt and Pepper" tours.

I will be certified then for Cozumel. I did read Matt's thread and plan to stay above 60 ft for those dives. I have read a lot of recommendations for Cozumel but haven't picked an operator yet. I may not get to dive because of family time but hope to get one in.

Thanks for any advice.

Aloha & Good luck John...

Like me, you're gonna wonder why you didn't learn to scuba sooner :D

JustLeesa,

Thanks for the Aloha. One of the reasons I am learning is that we are planning on a vacation to Hawaii next year and I want to dive there as well. My daughters (12 and 14) are interested in diving but I wanted to see how it is before I let them try it. If they are still interested the plan is for them to be certified in Hawaii.

:D Great place to learn...little tip for them, get the class room and pool stuff done at home and just do the dives here...gives them more time to practice ;)
