Hi, new to the lifestyle that's apparently inherent with diving, though I'm glad to be here.

I'm currently deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and discovered the world of SCUBA diving here after having a chat with my friend about the various training opportunities while I'm here. So, I go to through the PADI Open Water cert, fell in love with breathing underwater and since I don't have gills, I'll be doing this for the rest of my life.

The community out here encompasses some of the most interesting and friendly people I've ever met, the instructors are amazing and everyone wants everyone else to love diving as much as they do, tracking? good.

I'm still working my way to the Divemaster program and hopefully through the Assistant Instructor course while I'm here. Eventually, I'd like to be diving on wrecks 250 feet below researching and documenting. After my first dive to 100 feet, I just want to go deeper for longer and see what's down there.

Sorry, I'm rambling. Glad to be here.

welcome aboard

Hello and Welcome! Your post caught my attention, I was certified in GTMO March 07 while visiting a friend who is still there. I agree, an awesome place to learn, nothing easier than Phillips :) Windmill was probably one of my favorites . . . Super friendly dive shop. I will be visiting again a couple times this year and definitely looking for a buddy, my friend is not a diver :(

Is Jesse still managing the dive shop? I was in GTMO in 03, I had a blast diving there. The slot? I think the Slot was my favorite dive site. Check it out.

First of all let me say it is an honor to welcome you to our site...you are never far away from home with us.....as for your diving experiences and dreams of the future keep it up...I can't even look at a body of water and not want to be under it!! Good luck with all your classes and certs...

Caver, yes, Jesse still runs the dive shop and she's awesome. And the slot has become my favorite spot, it's my deepest logged dive and I want to go deeper now. Looking up at that coral wall 90 feet over your head is indescribable.

Zach - Give me a ring anytime brother! I'm on nights right now, but always eager to go. Everytime we hit the slot, it's too rough and I haven't done it yet.

AOW done, doing boat specialty this weekend, Search/Recovery next, Equipt after that on the way to Master scuba. Then working on the Divemaster (hopefully have it done b4 leaving in June...we'll see).

Oh, I like scuba at any time - to include like 3am if you're up.
