I sure hope that it will be more than luck -- a good instructor and paying attention usually help
Anyhow, I look forward to it. I'm pretty much all geared up (Given some of the threads here, I'm almost afraid to admit that I went for a Sherwood Maximus and Shadow+, but that's what I'm training with, will be using for my skills checks, so will have OOA practice opportunities with an instructor) I absolutely appreciate the wait-and-see approach as opposed to what I have done, but am an overall pretty comfortable outdoors person, and scuba is something I've wanted to get into for years (better living through Lasik

Thanks for the welcome, and the link. I've been poking about -- looks like a wealth of information. I should be getting my drysuit tomorrow, have a chance to work the seals and weight/trim in the pool before open water. (I'm a huge believer in owning your own equipment, learning with it, and the local dive shop seems like a really good group, recommended by colleagues)
