Wanted to say HI to everyone out there!
Diving history: pushing 60 dives. I am an aspiring DIR'er...I'm slowly buying my gear...all I have left to buy is a bottom timer, SPG amd regs. I got into DIR because all through about 25 dives I NEVER once got into a BC that comfortably fit me. I realized that a manufacturer coming up with 4-5 standard sizes and expecting everyone to fit into those specific sizes was quite stupid, so at a friends instigation I tried a backplate/wings setup. I have never looked back! I had done 25 dives through january '05 (4 years since I got certified), in the 4 months since then I have done almost 35 more dives!!
What I like about the DIR approach is that it is so logical and minimalist. I am not a DIR fanatic and don't go out and buy something just because it is DIR, but I do agree with almost everything about their "philosophy." People get too emotional about DIR vs non-DIR...try and detach yourself from all the hype and sit down and calmly think things over...you will see that the DIR approach is very sensible...and it has an extremely well proven track record!!!
