We heard reports of 30-40 feet vis on the Avalon wreck yesterday and 60 feet on the landing craft off Malaga Cove. Once again, our hopes were dashed by our curse of bad conditions. We arrived at the bow of the Avalon to find a green haze of 15-18 feet. We looked around the nearby rocks but didn't find many nudibranchs. Merry managed to get a couple of nice shots while I shot mediocre video.

We decided to head around to the south side of Palos Verdes to look for cleaner water. All we found was more of the same.
There was a strong current at Buchanan's Reef and Long Point. We went back to the Marineland Platform for nudibranch hunting. Visibility here was about eight feet. Temps were about 53F at both sites. We'll try our luck again after this week's rains.

WOW The Platform!!!!

Would love to get back and see it again. Too bad the last time you put a buoy there, it disappeared. I don't think the lines will be possible now with all of the kelp growing at the 120 reef. Remember when it was bare.....lol

Nice Report! The swell map showed good conditions from this past Wed. up until tomorrow, but in reality things weren't so nice. Charlie and I tried to get out at Marineland on Thursday but swell at the point and green foamy conditions at the 120 made it a no go. Glad to see you guy's got wet. Merry has been taking some great shots lately, does she use your DX-1G? or does she have her own setup? I like your opening shot of the wreck :20-28sec's. It gives you a good idea of how the wreck lays on the bottom. You will have to give me the GPS cords. once I get my RIB in the water.

At Merry's retirement party, her ex-boss gave her a Sea Life DC600 package. It's a simple point and shoot, but the focus is better than I usually get.
We tried to get out Thursday as well, but the swell models were wrong...again. :(
I've been scraping every penny for the past five years to get this boat and so far Merry has made two dives from it since we got it ten weeks ago. I'm sure the ocean will calm down some day.

You should head over to Catalina Island. Base yourself at Two Harbors and do a few dives up and down the coast as well as around the two harbors itself.

Is you boat in a slip? Ideally double check the marine forecast and be prepared to go at a moments notice.

Big swell is fine - Its the wind which will make a trip tough.

We were planning to go across Saturday but the Friday evening forecast was not great - A Saturday morning drive around the PV coast and the conditions looked great - The forecast had definitely changed and within the hour, we were heading to the Island.

So you're telling me there is a platform out there??? ;)

Thanks for the dive report. Even with less than stellar conditions, I'm sure you still had a nice time.

Thnx for the report and it looks like a nice boat
