After reading some of the posts about stupid things that divers regretted buying, I wondered what was at the other end of the spectrum. What has anyone purchased for diving that met or exceeded your expections? Anything that, if lost, would be on the list of immediate replacement items? As of today, nothing comes to mind for me. Every single piece of gear I own represents some type of compromise. The more expensive the piece, usually the higher my expection and sometimes the more I am disappointed.
Halcyon HID Can light - no doubt, my fav dive thing. Safety, peace of mind, and the simple enjoyment of always having a kickin' light close at hand. Has lifted my diving fun significantly.
My Cressi Big Eyes mask - rocks. Low tech, perfect (and I mean bone-dry perfect) fit. Candidate for immediate replacement if/when it croaks.
PST e8-130 water heater - one of the best buys I've made. Solid, huge (but managable) and delivers the peace of mind of knowing I got enough gas to get back. Me and my buddy are safer because of this thing. Love it.
I could go on and on. Everything I dive with rocks. I love my Suunto stuff. My Turtle fins (with spring straps, of course) are the bomb. The Halcyon BP/W is excellent. My drysuit is comfortable and, well, dry. I even love HOOD (of all the things to get "into".) Blah blah blah... It all rules.
I cycled through a truck load of inferior to barely sea-worthy crapola to get to this point. Most people who have finally stopped gear swapping have a similiar story.
If you're not passionately pleased with your rig, keep searching. You got to be into it. I mean INTO it - like more than satisfied with it. If something isn't cutting it, save up, hunt around, eBay the bobbleheads and step up. Aspire to the gear that you want. Be focused. Never settle.
Tony Robbins (sans freakish chicklets) out.
