Without a doubt, the mecca for macro photographers has been the Lembeh Strait for years, but in years past there are only 2 ways to get there: 1) brave the twice daily commute of 2hours plus in the crazy North Sulawesi traffic from Manado based resorts 2) staying in the expensive Kukungan Bay Resort. Kukungan Bay is very nice, don't take me wrong. But it is on the very high end strata where dive resorts are concern.
However there's a new alternative to both with the new player in the area - Lembeh Resort. Over crowding will never be a problem in this 9 cottage boutique dive resort. Open landscape, infinity edged pool, sea-front location with an awesome house reef, beautifully designed air-conditioned hard wood cottages with Bali-styled open bathrooms, restaurant, TV room, library and a dedicated camera room.
