As most Aeris Atmos AI owners may know by now, the battery hatch covers are no longer available for this computer through Oceanic or Huish Outdoors, and I and other divers have not been able to locate Aeris replacements from LDS that used to and still do sell the computer. However, after discussions with Ron the tech guy at Pelagic Pressure Systems (PPS), the company that built the Aeris Atmos AI, and manufactures the Aqualung i550, the battery hatch cover for the Aqualung i550, should have fit the Aeris Atmos AI. But it did not, the threads on the i550 being ever so slightly larger in diameter than the Aeris Atmos cap (as AZ Ryan also described in a different thread). After describing the minor thread diameter problem to Ron, at PPS, he suggested I bake the i550 battery hatch cover (without gasket of course) in a 160-160F degree oven for 35-45 minutes to slightly contract the plastic. I will admit that I was very doubtful about this suggestion. However, I baked mine at 170F degrees for 30 minutes, let cool, installed the gasket, and was flabbergasted to find it screwed into the Aeris Atmos body perfectly, I put the computer in a bucket of water, and did not see any air bubbles coming from the hatch cover. Unfortunately, I will not be able to dive test it until summer, but I am very optimistic that the heated Aqualung i550 battery hatch cover is going to work. So thank you Ron at PPS. Your advice and suggestions kept my two computers operational, and I suspect other Aeris Atmos AI owners are going to be ecstatic with this solution, assuming the cap does not leak under pressure.
I wish I could have dive tested this heated battery hatch cover before posting on SB, but decided to present the information I have now that might prevent someone from discarding a perfectly good computer for lack of an OEM Aeris Atmos AI battery hatch cover. Please let us know how the heated battery hatch cover works if you are able to dive test this modified cap.
