Can someone recommend a largish map of the Great Lakes with the shipwrecks identified?

I want to hang the map and put a pin in the map for each wreck I dive. I thought it would be neat to have the wrecks on the map - if this type of map doesn't exist, I will use a Michigan map and label my pins with the wreck name and do a best guess at the coordinates.

Thanks!

Coordinates are available for all on the OUC Google Earth map. I saw some maps which I will try to find but this is a great tool none the less.

Come to think of it I wouldn't be opposed to looking into a making a "Great Lakes Wrecking Crew" official map. I know people who could make large poster prints. I'll look into it. and start a thread about it in a few days.

Here is one that I was previously looking at. Haven't purchased it yet so can't really say how good it is. Also, somewhere I saw good detailed maps of each lake with wreck pointed out. However, right now I can't find that link. I'll keep looking...

Great Lakes Freighters -

Hope this helps!

The "Chart Shop" in Tobermory, Ontario has a map of all 5 Great Lakes with the more famous wrecks posted (I highly doubt a map exists of all 5 lakes with ALL the wrecks on it). I can't tell you off the top of my head but I would guess there has to be a couple hundred listed as well as sinking date and type of ship (I think). It also a some short stories about some of the history including something about the Griffin and also some of the memorable storms. It doesn't have all of them but it would be an excellent starting point. Cost of the map is around $10 ... whenever I am up there I pick up about 5-6 and then sell them at cost to students and dive buddies. gNats - I'll try to remember one for Sunday's dive.

Would this be workable? You will really need a 2'x3' size to mark sites with any accuracy.

Great Lakes

I was looking into the NOAA charts. They would be ok to add pins and possibly write on, but it's hard to get a version that one could print. I'm looking into it. I think it would look better than some of the more cartoonish great lakes maps with wrecks I've seen.

NOAA chart 14500 is the "Great Lakes. Lake Champlain to Lake of the Woods". It is about 3' x 4'. It should be available at West Marine or most other boating/sailing stores or even good marinas. You would have to guesstimate the location of the wrecks.
