Just got back from Nassau. My daughter turned 12 while we were there so we managed to get 3 dives in (3 tanks). She did a Resort course a couple of days before her birthday and then begged to do a 2 tank re-resort course on her birthday.

Not sure if we are allowed to mention the dive operation, but they were great both days. The instructors were marvelous both days. I tagged along for the Resort course, doing both the classroom portion and then the single tank dive. She did all her basics in about 10fsw of clear calm ocean with one other student. She capped that off with a 30 minute shallow reef dive.

On her birthday, she did the re-resort 2 tank dive. Weather was perfect, ocean was calm with barely a swell. For the first dive we did a wreck dive in about 40fsw. There were 3 re-resort students, all girls around 12 to 13 years of age, 3 parents and the instructor. The instructor had the girls stick to him like glue and spent quite a lot of time swimming backwards so he could keep a watchful eye on all the girls, while us parents brought up the rear. The instructor descended and accended a line making sure they all equalized their ears coming down and didn't ascend too fast on the way up. During the dive he would stop and show them diffrent types of coral, fish, etc. indicating what they were looking at by writing on his slate pad.

On the second dive, we managed to see about 6 or 7 Caribbean Reef Sharks. We had had a brief discussion about these during our surface interval, stating that we might see a couple. My daughter was so pumped to see the sharks, it was the highlight of her birthday. None of us felt threatened by the sharks at any time, it was so cool. I managed to get quite a few good/novice photo's as they passed within about 10ft or so.

My daughter is now hooked on scuba diving and we are will be getting her into OW classes within the next month or so.

We're just waiting for for weather and water to warm up a bit locally.

That's great!

Sounds perfect.

Coingrats to you and her! Brings back good memories of my boys and I diving together for the first time at Cypress Spring - it was a OW training trip, but it was the three of us in the camper; cooking over a fire, diving together etc, a great time!!! I have the picture to prove it - now the lumoxxes are 19 and 22, and diving is OK at best, and camping -forget it!

The younger one did thoroughly enjoy diving in Nasssau on my 50th with me - did the Bond Wrecks - Nassau has great diving

I have to agree diving with your kids is the ultimate pleasure for me to just watch their expressions as they discover new and exciting things underwater. That being said I have been diving with my granddaughter since she was 11 and she's now 15 and still loving it. Those young strong eyes sure come in handy when your trying to find little critters.

Great story. Congrats to you both.
Although my daughter's grown, in a few weeks i'll get to dive with her the first time in Cozumel.
What a thrill for an old man !:D

My daughter and I are going to COCO View (just the two of us) in May.

It's worth every dime.
