We went out on the Great Escape and it was a four-dives day with the first one at the pinnacles near Johnson Rock. I think Captain Tim called it "Myrtle's reef" (spelling?). Great dive with viz around easily 40+feet. As we pulled up we saw those big dolphins that only eat squid, and they were hunting. Some of them were barely 20-yds from the boat, and we were hoping to see them underwater. We geared up and jumped in, as we were descending, a school of squid buzzed us. Then they started hiding in the shadow of the Great Escape, keeping away from the dolphins.

Got down to around 100-ft and cruised around a bit. There were so many nudies there that I was in hog heaven. I saw some gigantic scallops but nary paid any attention to them just because of the nudies: Tritonias, San Diego Dorids, Noble Dorids, Clown Dorid, Hudson's, Yellow-Edged Cadlina.

All through the dive, we kept hearing the dolphins clicking away and the squids kept circling us. Then I saw a glimpse of two dolphins at the corner of my eye and they were gone. As we were ascending and hovering at the safety stop, two squids were by themselves making whoopie. Also, dead squids were floating everywhere as well. Didn't see any egg sacks though.

That was the best dive of the day. The other three dives at Black Rock and Parson Landing were just OK. Weathe was spectacular with a hair of breeze and some serious sunshine.

There was a group of junior high school kids getting certified by Hollywood Divers. they were some troopers (probably because they're young and don't know any better). Temp was a consistent 55-F, and none of them complained about being cold. Ah, youth... They even had to deal with some nasty surges at Black Rock and Parson Landing too, and when the viz turned near zero at the fourth dive at Parson, they didn't panic either. Good kids.

Oh, and I am sporting a pair of solid fins now.
