Looking at a trip to Riviera Maya over Thanksgiving (late November). From reading several threads in the forum, the RM looks like a descent place for a new diver - correct? Anyway, we are looking at a resort called "Grand Sirenis". I was wondering if anybody has been there and what their thoughts are and any thoughts of the diving in this area (although my wife is telling me this isn't a dive trip - but hay you're on the RM you have to dive).

My wife and I were there last year. It's very nice with some decent snorkelling just off shore. I talked to the dive operator about doing a dive or two but their rates were pretty high for local dives (they wanted $100.00 for a two-tank dive on a reef 2 minutes from shore).

The food was good and the evening entertainment was better than average. It's a bit of a walk from the lobby area to the beach (over a wooden bridge) but I like walking so that was no problem.

You will have a great time I am sure.

This is an old thread and since I posted it, we have been there twice. We had a great time both times and enjoyed the resort and the diving. I have read some recent reviews about guests being hassled about time-shares and not having full access to the resort because they were either not a time share owner or didn't sit in their time share meeting (to get you to buy). Hopefully, it isn't like that now, but back when we went 2007 & 2008 we had a great time.
