I have a dive trip scheduled for Oct 14 - 21 and will be staying near georgetown and will do most of our diving at divetech (AOW, Boat Diving and Shore Diving). Was wondering if it would be worth taking the last day or two to go to the East side of othe island and maybe do some diving with Ocean Frontiers? Or would it be better to stay with divetech for all of the diving? I have heard good things about both dive ops but was wondering if it is worth to do both ends of the island. This will be my first trip to Caymen. Was wondering how long it takes to get from Georgetown to the East end?

Thanks for the help

We're huge fans of Divetech, but if you've never been diving on the East End, splitting your time and doing a couple of days with OF is worthy of consideration. While I've never gone out with OF, everyone raves about them and when we were in GC a month ago some friends (some very picky friends!) dove with OF and had nothing but praise for them. It does take a bit of time to get to the East End from Georgetown. If you're planning to do morning dives, you're going to need to get started bright and early! I'm sure one of the locals can say with more certainty, and with a better idea of how traffic might affect the trip, but as I recall, its around a forty minute drive (maybe a bit longer?).

Georgetown to Compass Point in East End ~ 40-50 min

SMB to Compass Point in East End ~ 45-60 min. We did in 40 min on Sunday morning with little traffic from SMB, leaving around 07h10. I would suggest to watch your speedometer as there are a lot of patrolling cops. The lighthouse is a speed trap.

Remember that Ocean Frontiers dive boats are located at Compass Point and not the Reef Resort. OF does provide free shuttles to SMB.

As far as OF is concerned, they are really the best organized and operated dive op on the island. My scale is 9 of 10. But if compared to other dive ops I have experienced then it's still behind to such Toucan Diving (10 of 10) at Plaza Resort in Bonaire.

PM me if you have a question as we just returned from 9 days in GCM for our first anniversary.

Yes it is absolutely worth the effort of making it out to the East End. Oceanfrontiers website states that the a.m. dives includes a free shuttle from the West Side.I would imagine you would have to get up very early to make that though.

If you are not the early morning sort it might be better to wander over to OF later in the day and do the p.m. dive ,then explore that end of the island.Vivines kitchen is a great place for cheap, local food and is almost next door to OF.

If you are diving with Divetech be sure to shore dive the mini wall at the Turtle farm.If the silversides are still in the tarpon cave it is something special.
