Looking to travel to the Caribbean in Feb 08. Considering going to the Cayman islands. Wondering which part of the Caymans have the best diving and resort. I've read some of the reviews about GC, and seems very good. Just wondering if the diving at Little Cayman is better or similiar. Thanks.

My experience..........GC, we dove it twice a year from '86 thru '93---finally stopped due to too many people(last time there woke up one morning with FOUR cruise ships in Georgetown harbor & impossible to get thru @ noontime due to the 'cattle truck' situation)...Stopped going & in fact bought a house on Roatan in '94--our 'new dive destination'......

After a 13 year hiatus, scheduled & made a trip to LC ie Little Cayman Beach Resort this past July........GREAT diving, probably twice as good as we remembered GC........Without a doubt, go to LC, you'll not be disappointed IMO......

EDIT:...see my pics(UW & topside) in the link...Little Cayman one's have LC in their album titles.....

If you want night life, lots to do and see stay at Grand Cayman. If you want some piece and quiet stay at Little Cayman. We have stayed at Pirates Point several times. Great diving, staff and food. You can check them out at Little Cayman Scuba Diving Resort with Gourmet Dining. The diving is the best in the Caribbean. Very little night life other than at the resorts, nice beach and the hammocks are wonderful. Have a great trip which ever island you choose.

I second the information provided above.

Diving on LC & GC is similar in quality * IF * you ignore the West End / Seven Mile Beach area of GC. Dive in the East End, and on the North Wall when weather permits. The criticisms of GC are almost always expressed by divers who stay in the SMB area and dive exclusively on the West Side.

Second this. Staying on different areas of GC, it's like staying on different islands. East end GC does allow you the option of driving to shopping and restaurants sometime if you want. On LC of course there is none of that to go to, which is also a good thing if you like that.

How far is the East End from 7 mile beach? As I would like to see both if we do decide to go to GC.

What are the sea conditions on the east end and north wall during Februarywhen kalekainxx is going. My understanding is it is pretty rough during that time. I understand the "only when the norwesters blow", but the wind has been howling down there for a couple of weeks already.

My understanding it (East End) was 'late' in developing for that reason-----otherwise the harbor(Georgetown) would have been on the the east side......ie it can be very ruff compared to the other side......Be careful, more damage can be done to the island following cold fronts in winter time ve Cat 3 hurricanes---good example is Gilbert vs cold fronts that came thru the following winter, ask Sunset house, their ourdoor bar had 3 or 4 feet of water in it after a cold front that winter vs (virtually)no damage from H. Gilbert......
