We were scheduled to leave out of FNT on 01/31/2014 with a stop in ATL and then arrive at GCM ~1:45 in the afternoon. As luck would have it; the flight from FNT to ATL was cancelled because of weather. My wonderful wife spent 2 hrs. on the phone with Delta looking for other flights out of Michigan to GCM and they found a American Airlines flight out of Detroit and arriving in GCM at 8:45 that night, so we still made it on the same day just 8 hrs later.

We stayed 8 nights at the Turtle Nest Inn at the East End of the island, sunny and ~83 degrees daily. We momentarily thought about the unfortunate people in MI having to deal with the cold temps and snow, and then went back to drinking beer and rum by the pool. :thumb:

I got 18 dives in with Ocean Frontiers during six days and didn’t visit any reefs more than once. As I will be diving again with Ocean Frontiers again, I’m doing their Green Short Challenge. It’s a challenge from them to dive all of the 55 sites they go to. I enjoy diving with them as they are a full valet shop and will take care of your gear if you want them to. I prefer to take my regs with me. They are very friendly and professional. You can dive with a DM or go off with your dive buddy and dive as long as you have gas and stay within NDL. The water temp was 81 degrees so I just dove in board shorts and a rash guard. The reefs on that side of the island are healthy IMO and have a lot of life around them. We saw many reef sharks, lobsters a few turtles etc. I did take a lot if video clips, now I just need to get some ambition and put a complete video together.

It was a good time and it was WARM. Got home late Saturday night 02/08/2014. The trip seemed like a distant memory when I got up Sunday morning and had to clear the snow out of the driveway. :( Next stop is St. Maarten in March and the Roatan Invasion in late April. Lots of excellent diving ahead.

Nice. Glad y'all had a good time.

We did a few dives with OF long time about, but they were very nice. That was the first time I had to back-roll off a boat. First time is always thrilling, for most things. We also did the shark experience with them, back with it was permissible.

Thanks for the report. We may have to look into Turtle Nest or some other East End accommodations in the future.

EDIT:

You and the BP/W are now friends?

Yes we are. Using 5#'s lead and trim seems/feels good. I'll need a subjective evaluation when we get to Roatan. :D

Why did you choose Turtle Inn over Compass Point if you were diving with OF?

Tried but Compass Point was full. Would have been $400 cheaper as I could have purchased a dive package. Oh well, it was warm and I was wet. :D

Did you stay at the Inn or in a Condo?

Stayed in an apartment. Cheaper and I was only sleeping there. Apartment was nice though.
