Just got back from awonderful week of diving with Off the Wall Divers in Grand Cayman. Kelly,Meghan, and Tom were all wonderful crew and gave all of us on the boat VIPtreatment every day and were a lot of fun. We did some great dives includingBlackie's Hole, Armchair, Kent's Caves, Fish Mountain, and Wildlife Reef justto name a few.
Diving conditionswere great every day and we could not have asked for better weather. Their wasnever much of a surge except on the South end of the island when we did Kent'sCaves. My favorite dive was swimming between Fish Mountain to Wildlife Reef. Afriendly nurse shark named "Fin" accompanied us for about 30 minutesof the dive. I have never seen a nurse shark that loved humans as much as Finappears to love them. This is surprising considering she has a wound on hermouth where she got off a fish hook. It makes me sad to think that her life wasalmost ended by a fisherman and there is always that threat. Fin made that diveone of the most memorable in my life.
Kelly Higginbottom(the ship's captain) went above and beyond the call of duty and took us up foran afternoon shore dive at Turtle Reef (Maccabucca). The tarpon there weresimply amazing. I could not believe how many and how large they were. We wereable to get in very close. Pretty spooky fish.
Unfortunately Iflooded my GoPro the very first day so I do not even have a single dive onvideo. I was bummed but it was totally my fault. If they would have had anyHero 3s on the island I would have bought one but Cathy Church's staff informedme they have none in anticipation of the Hero 4 coming out. Bummer.
My wife and I stayedat the Sunshine Suites and although we enjoyed it, I would want to stay righton the beach next time. The Sunshine Grille is awesome and Mike Dill was veryhelpful with tons of information on mustdos on the island. We ended up doing the tandem Jetski tour out to StingrayCity through Ebanks Watersports. It was a great tour, perfect day, and a verymemorable experience. I would highly recommend it for anyone who has not donethis.
September is theslowest month of the year and I think my wife and I loved that fact. We don'tlike crowds and thought it was perfect. The botanical garden was a waste oftime and money and I would not do that again. The iguana habitat was closed theday we went there.
Other than theSunshine Grille there were not really any memorable restaurants. We triedRaggazi, Casanova, The Beach House, Copper Falls, and a few others. None ofthem really stood out as being worth the high Cayman prices we paid.
We both got a neck, shoulder, and back massage at the Hibiscus Spa at the Westin. They have a greatfacility and the massage was worth the price.
Overall we had agreat time and my wife and I loved Grand Cayman even more than Bermuda and willdefinitely be back at some point. The trip flew by but then they always do.
