We will be staying at Compass Point and diving with them in the mornings. But they aren't doing any lion fish hunts the week we are there.

Does anyone know if an operation who is running the class and a hunt on July 7, 8, or 9?

This would be for 2, or perhaps 4 people.

Thanks-

Tom

Did you ask OF? They should be in the know.

Do you already have the DoE certification for hunting lionfish? Seems to me that even if there isn't a hunt going on you do the training and get that, as it's good for life. I know Divetech offer it and Ocean Frontiers had talked about starting it up in July. Divetech also offer guided lionfish culling dives: Scuba Diving | Grand Cayman | Divetech

You could also contact CULL (The Cayman United Lionfish League) and they may be able to point you in the right direction. CULL-Cayman United Lionfish League

Hi Tom, thanks for your e-mail, you have a reply in your inbox. We have availability for both 8th and 9th in the afternoon.

Cheers,
Menno

If you are not here for an official cull you can still be part of the action. I think Red Sail was offering an opportunity to join a hunt the last Sunday of the month. You need the license to spear but can accompany a licensed hunter as their lionfish spotter. DM's often take their spears on dives if the guests are okay with it and guests can always act as spotters on any of those dives. The extra eyes are always welcome.

Red Sail does a residents-only (and guests) lion fish hunt usually last Sunday of every month. I go as a spotter as I'm not certified to hunt. Don't think it is open to the general public (as it costs only CI 25 for a 2 tank dive), but contact them to see.
