Hi all,

My wife and I are going on a cruise with a stop in George Town, Grand Cayman in Oct. My wife doesn't dive but I do. The cruise ship does not have a dive excursion for our stop at Grand Cayman. It may be because of our arrival time of 9:00am and departure time of 5:30pm. Do any of you know of a dive operator that may have midday diving or group shore diving since I don't have a dive buddy. Any info will help. This will be my first time to Grand Cayman, and I would hate to go there without being able to dive.

Thanks for any info,

Give Don Fosters a shot. I dove with them about four years ago and they were great.

A buddy of mine just got back yesterday and told me that he rented scooters for $25.00US

He went out from the shore and with the scooter he was able to do a dive better than any dive hes done on a boat!!!!! yep The infamous wall that drops off to more han 6000fsw! It was a four min scooter ride. He was telling me that he ended up doing a 3 1/2 mile dive, to be carefull cause you don't use hardly any air to watch out as to not go into DECO and to time how long you went out so you end up where you started as opposed to 5 miles down the coast!!!

He also told me that he was the only open circut guy in the water that all the people down there are all diving CCR's now... the times are a changin'

I was in Cayman in July. the only rebreathers I saw were behind the counter at Divetech.I think your friend is exaggerating a little.

Hmmm well he didn't even know what a CCR was untill it was all around him. 20 yrs always been straight.

Non the less, the scooter shore dive sounded fun and easy

Some of the rental scooters are not the most reliable things around, I wouldn't go anyplace I couldn't swim it back or at least get to someplace useful on shore.

ditto, certainly not common - he's either exaggerating, or happened upon some tech diving event.

Well alrighty then. Ignore me, Im just going on what I was told. I wasn't there, but if I go then I will know for myself.

Take a Taxi from the crusie ships to Divetech and have the best dives at your leisure (no boat schedule). Divetech scooters are the best way to see the deep wall from shore. You could just stay on the shallow wall and have awesome dives, especially at 40' there are 40-80 large Tarpon in a cavern.

Divetech has a rebreather experience (CCR resort course) that is just the coolest adventure. It takes a 1/2 day, but they end up taking to 60' for 1 1/2 hours with no bubbles. The marine life, especially the Tarpon, just came right up to my mask. Divetech seems to have rebreather divers at their shops all the time. On the boat dives there was at least one CCR diver diving with others on open circuit. Divetech's boat profile is 2 one hour dives for maxinum bottom time for open circuit and but short for a CCR diver. We were told by the staff that she can stay down for up to 3 hours on the same tanks. She was taking photo's, the fish were right in her lense.

Have great dive.....

is it CCR or SCR? They told me SCR, that they didn't do CCR for the "experience." (We tried to do this last time we were there but they screwed up the scheduling on us. :( Maybe next time.)
