I'll be in Grand Cayman July 21-29 can anyone tell me what the water temps are and is a dive skin gonna be plenty to dive in or will I need to bring the 3 mill wetsuit. Also could you name your favorite GOTTA TO DIVE SITES on the west south or north sides besides stingray city. The east end is not possible as we will be staying at 7 mile beach.

THANKS

I just got back Thursday. You will not need a 3mil there. My fiance wore a .5 and was fine. As for dive sights...hit stingray city, and various parts of the wall. I would suggest Tarpon Alley (to see Tarpons of course) and all the various wall dives. The one part of the Island that is known for currents, etc, was one of our dives and it was true to it's legend. Used 1000 just to get down to where we needed to be.
Enjoy...

Hi Cardzard,
The water temp is currently 84f and warming up! Even us climatised locals are out of the suits and into the rashguards for the next few months.
You are coming at the perfect time of year to dive the North wall which is where we are seeing all kinds of big stuff right now; plenty of Eagle rays, huge green turtles and the occasional Hammerhead.
Any site on the North Wall is pretty much guaranteed to please right now so no need to be fussy. The vis. changes with the tides at this time of year so your boat captain should know where the best spots are on the day.
Happy diving,
See you out there!!

I would recommend sites that Divetech tooks us to, like Ghost mountain, Valley of the turtles, Bears paw, Princes Penny and list goes on. We have been to Grand Cayman many times but the Northwall is the greatest. Also, if your into shore diving Divetech has 2 great locations on the Northwall and the shore diving was Free with our boat package. Night diving from their shops was the one of the best night dives I have ever experienced, lots of marine life.

Does anyone know if Ocean Frontiers heads up to the North Wall from the East end or do they typically stay on the East End. I am now concerned that the currents are going to be a challenge for my girlfriend. I don't mind it but she has a difficult time if it gets to strong. I hear that the East End is much calmer in the late summer months. I will be there in late August. Anyone have experience in that timeframe with Ocean Frontiers?

Typically Ocean Frontiers stays on East End, as do all of the East End operators. If you look at this map of Grand Cayman, the area covered by the East End dive operators is roughly all points east of Frank Sound Rd. Frank Sound Rd runs from Old Man Bay (box #100) in the north to Frank Sound (box #74) in the south. When people talk about The North Wall, they generally mean the area from West Bay (box #1) to Rum Point (box #120).

Not to worry. Summer is usually the lightest winds of the year bringing the calmest seas.

Big Tunnels is a great site. Turtle Farm is a great night dive. I have made 4 trips to Cayman and I can't remember a bad dive site.
