Hi,
I finally decided to start getting pictures on my own .... and I went with a D90 (with 18-200 VR for surface).

Now I am undecided (very undecided) on what to buy for taking the D90 underwater .....
Which housing?
Which lenses?
Which strobes?
Am I missing anything else?

I plan to use the D90 to take both still images and videos ... and I plan to bring it with me around the world ;)

Thank You for your help.

Which housing?
Aluminum, Sea&Sea doesn't make them, go Hugyfot, Aquatica or else.

Which lenses?
One WA and one Macro for a start:
For the macro: 60mm (the new one has better IQ the old is better for macro)
For the WA: Many choices Nikkor 10.5mm (best IQ) Tokina 10-17mm (versatility yet fisheye); Nikkor 12-24, Tokina 11-24, Sigma 10-20mm (all play nice in the mid-field).

Which strobes?
Inon are nice, Sea&Sea also makes nice ones.
Chose one with a target light for slightly better video.

Am I missing anything else?
Arms: Ultralight
Inon Viewfinder.

Pelican cases w/ dividers.

I am currently shooting a D90 and I have it housed in an Ikelite housing with dual DS125's strobes on the ikelite 1 1/4inch ball arms. I use the Tokina 10-17mm Lens behind the Ikelite 8 inch Dome port and also use the Sigma 17-70mm macro behind the dome. for Macro I use the 60mm and 105mm lenses with their own flatports.

If your on a budget I would first look at Ikelite and the main reason why I bought an Ikelite housing was becuase I had alot of Ikelite ports, domes, sync cords etc.

I really like the look of the Aquatica housing and suggest that you have a real good look at them.

As for Strobes I still like the Ikelites even tho they are alot larger than Inons. I would be looking at the new DS160's if your after new strobes. As a couple of extra battery packs for the strobes. The Aquatica housing are also sync with Ikelite strobes.

Other things to look for are good LED modeling light for your macro work. There are a few out there and it depends on what housing you go with for your options.

I wouldn't buy anything smaller than a 16gb HCSD card as you get about 725 shots out of the 16gb on large fine and RAW.

I too recommend a large Pelican case. I fit everything in a 1620. Yes its going to weight about 25kg full packed with all your camera gear in it but you know its packed well and will end up at your destination in one piece.

I have a few stills and video on my flickr site to show you what I am getting out of my D90 if you want to have a look.

Regards Mark

Don't forget spare parts to take along just in case. I spare everything electronic - camera, batteries, chargers, cables, strobe, hot shoe adapter, housing bulkhead, sync cords/fiber cable, etc.
(I know f/o isn't electronic, but what if the shark bites it??)

I'm pretty much in the same boat here. although I have the tokina 10-17. Was thinking of the aquatica, but what dome/port? the 9.25" is really expensive. and do I need two strobes? I'm diving in dark green water...

Thank You all.
Isn't Sea&Sea working on a housing for the D90?
Any idea when it will be available?

Thanks

AM

last I heard they were not committed yet to making one, but I'm sure the dealers will have more of the inside scoop.

congrat's on your D90, I'm sure you can't wait to get it into the water.

Don't forget to get your sync cords, focus lights, extra batteries & chargers for the strobes, zoom ring if you get a zoom lens, dome port cover, and a camera bag to hold your camera bodies and lenses.

let me know which housing you go with.

Hi,
from the look of it ..... most likely I will go with the aquatica AD90 ...

Now ... where should I buy it?
Online? Or from a brick & mortar shop?
If the second .... any suggestion for a SoCal shop?

Regards,

AM
