I'm a Fish!
I’ve known Rick Inman and his wife for a few years. He dives with a few guys who I have met from time to time but don’t know much about.

So over the past few days Rick and I have been talking about a dive we need to do but it’s just outside of our policy. He has said he and a couple of dive buds were up to it so I gave him an OK and we would assist.

Our brass said the dive isn’t a big deal for you (me). I told them it was a 5 minute TBT dive w/o deco time and we were not set up to do decos which are also against policy as a normal planned dive. If deco is needed OK but those dives are not to be planned.

Now some of my team members and the brass were a bit nervous about letting these guys dive. So I had to do a lot of talking.

So at 1100 today we meet at the public dock. The three of us from the department introduced each other to the three of them and we just sat back and watched them get ready.

They didn’t do anything that surprised me because I knew what to expect. But by the time we got out to the dive site and they went down I had two very surprised partners on my boat. They were shocked by the amount of checks and double checks they did and how professional they were about the entire operation. They also got to see how to make a 5 minute dive last over an hour. Tech Divers and TriMix make a big difference.

Well they checked the area over two dives with just over a hour of bottom time and didn’t find our target. They did a good job searching but I’m thinking I have them off several yards one direction or another. I need to go back and review the SS images and get another GPS reading before the next dives they do.

KUDOS to Rick and his buddies for being a very safe and professional group.

Thanks Bud.

I forgot to mention that we took them for a ride in the new RAVE. That generated more than a few grins. It will get from one end of the lake to the other faster and smoother than the average vessel. :)
