got my drysuit certification yesterday during DUI Dog day at Stage Fort park in Gloucester, Ma. it was a fun event. lot of very nice and friendly people. we did 2 dives, one for skills and another for underwater exploration. there was not much to explore though as the dive site is good for classes, quite shallow (~5 m) but lacks pretty much anything else. as far as a drysuit is concerned, i'll stick with a wetsuit for a while. it requires less maintainance, is cheaper, and keeps me warm most of the time. however, certification does not hurt and maybe one day when i find myself in some cold places like Alaska i can use it.

Are you sure that was a drysuit certification? When I did DOG Days they signed off my log book which was used during my AOW class as 1 of my elective courses. We did get a couple of good dives with the instructor. I never got a true Drysuit cert. & dive 1 all the time. I bought a used 1 which I dove for about a year & a half & just bought a new DUI CF-200 which I love. My wife had not dove dry since our DOG Days in Oct 05 & we got her a TLS-350 which she dove for the 1st time last weekend & looked as if she had been in 1 for years.

yes, i'm sure i got certified (through PADI). i left out some extra info, sorry. i took a class through the school and to be honest i took it because the price was great and I like the instructor a lot. so we had a class session, then a pool session and OW dives. OW dives coincided with DUI DOG day. So, we did not have to rent drysuits. DUI dealer kindly let us use them for pool session and for OW dives.

OK Mikhail that definatly sheds a little more light on the situation. Once you get that drysuit you will not dive wet again. Especially up there.
I was born in Cambridge by the way, even tho I left in 1971 & havnt been back since.

Congrats. We were out there at Stage Fort Park today. No class, just for fun. Two points. First, if you go dry here in MA, you won't go back. Sure, diving at SFP in 10' of water, temps were around 48F. Dive deeper here and temps are still in the 30s. Not fun wet! Second, SFP can be a blast if you just know where to look. A short list of what we saw:

-Skates
-Winter Flounder
-Hermit crabs
-Shrimp
-Moon snails
-Decorator crab
-Urchins
-Brittle worms

Sure, nothing spectacular, but still a good time.

we saw a dead skate, belly up. also an alive one later on.we saw a flounder. i'm not experienced to tell what kind though. few shrimps, big snails, hermit crabs, and worms as well.
no sea urchins.
it was ok, however, my previous dives at Cape Ann were more visually pleasing.

I always knock this site in favor of the other CA sites, but really, I always have pleasant dives here. Sure, lots of sand, but go slow, and there's lots to see. It's also so shallow you can stay down forever (last time we were there, we were doing 70+ minutes dives).

I'm SO glad someone else used this event for just such an activity. I tried like mad to get my boss to offer up a discounted dry suit course for the DUI rally at Beaver Lake, but his schedule didn't permit it.

That is something I may discuss with DUI and their local sales team for 2008. Stay away from sales (not allowed at the event), but offer the course at the event as an added option.
