I was diving at Casino Point, Avalon, Ca on Friday, 5 Aug with my girlfriend and two close friends. We flew from Maryland for the weekend, and since it was a special dive for us, bought a GoPro Hero HD and captured the entire dive using a head strap mount. While exiting the water on the stairs, I turned to help my girlfriend out of the water, dropped the camera, and watch as it was sucked away by an incoming wave. We believe it dropped right in front of the stairs, and searched for it, but with the incoming tide, the surge was simply too strong, and it was nearly impossible to search for it without being slammed into the stairs. I will pay a $100 reward for the return of the camera, but am mostly interested in the SD card with the footage from our dive. If someone finds it, and will simply mail me the SD card, I will be extremely happy.

Actually, I will make that a $200 reward, assuming the camera still appears to be intact :)

Update: AMEX paid for the camera and SD card since I lost it the day after I purchased both. (Thank you AMEX!) That said, if someone recovers the camera, I would still love to recover the footage, as the dive was a special occasion with my girlfriend and best friend during our visit to SoCal from Maryland. You can consider the camera your reward, please simply contact me to send me the SD card!

Thanks!

Patrick

Have notified the local dive shops of your loss. Did spend some time looking in the area you lost it since I was offgassing after my dive and wanted to fully extend my bottom time.

Can you post whether the goPro was lost WITH the head strap attached. Might make it easier to identify if found.

Dr Bill,

I lost with the head strap assembly still attached right in front of the stairs, which definitely makes it difficult to search for, given the strong surge usually found in that area. It was negatively buoyant, and seemed as though it went straight to the bottom. It's simply a matter of being able to see in the turbid water and not getting smashed against the stairs. Thank you for your efforts.

Patrick
