google ocean is available for free by downloading the latest version of google earth from the google homepage.
This latest version of google earth lets people plunge beneath the sea, swim around underwater volcanoes, hover above shipwrecks and navigate mountains on the sea bed.
The software also shows protected areas of the ocean and lets people follow the movement of sea animals tagged with satellite trackers.

And the link for anyone that doesn't have it: Google Earth

I have yet to find any part of the ocean that looks like what they show in the video. All I can find is flat ocean bottom with a little detail but very little. Have you seen somewhere like what they show?

Same been looking for a few weeks and cant find any stunning ocean fly throughs etc even in areas you'd thought would be well mapped. Few and far between it seems. So far for me at least google ocean isnt worth it.

Good thing we did not have to pay for it :D I am glad it is not just me because I went straight to the areas around Cataline Island, Los Angela area, San Diego....The Keys....areas that I though for sure would be mapped.....but I guess not. Oh well, some day it will be.

I havent used it much, but havent found anything spectacular yet either. It does show some interesting pics and video of some underwater sites tho when you click on the "markers"

There were claims some areas are mapped to 1-2m resolution due to surveys, around Monteray etc. Again though even looking carefully i can't see anything like it.

Google earth though is fantastic for surface work. I couldnt live without it

Isn,t that the truth. I use google earth to find new dive sites, looking to buy a new house, work and a lot just for fun. It is how I obtain all of my GPS coordinates for mapping things.....and then I embed a google map into my website so it is super easy to find a dive site or whatever.
