I am looking for a good field manual I can thumb through, learn more about identifying the local species native to the sound. Something well organized, easy to reference, and colorful pictures, spiral bound would be nice.... Any recommendations?

Pacific Reed & Shore; Rick M. Harbo
Whelks to Whales; Rick M. Harbo
Both of these are excellent books for the PNW.

I second the recommendation for Whelks to Whales; Rick M. Harbo as it is an excellent general purpose book that covers a wide range of "stuff" you are likely to see up here. It isn't as in depth as Coastal Fishes of the Pacific Northwest, by Humann (an excellent book BTW), but it does include some nudi's and other animals that are not found in a dedicated fish book.
