Hi
I have been checking the forum and found some Dive clubs
  • AbYss Scuba
  • Dive Center manly
  • Dive Center Bondi
  • Aquatic Explorer

Has anybody tried these and have any reviews on them..
As I am only in Sydney for a short time which Dive Sites should I be looking at to se the Best of Sydney.. Including Wreck Dives (I am Advanced Diver with 50 Odd Dives)

Thanks Again

sydney is a big place so where will you be located during your stay and will you have access to transport??? these shops cover alot of distance in sydney

abyss - carl runs a good dive shop, very enthusiastic about his diving and the dive community

dive centre manly - another good shop but they have a big tourist base so but they are easy to get to (via manly ferry and short walk) and they offer transport to/from their shop

dive centre bondi - robin and liam run a good tight shop. liam is one of only 2 gue instructors in australia and 1 of only 3 in the southern hemisphere

aquatic explorers - they ok but i would choose abyss or Shiprock Dive over aquatic for my buck

dont forget Plunge Diving at clifton gardens/chowder bay. good macro dive right on their doorstep (we will be diving there tomorrow) and they offer boat dives also.

and talking about boat dives, i suggest the Yves on Scubaroos or SeaTamer at SeaTamer Dive Charter - Scuba Diving Sydney off Cronulla via Port Hacking

hmmm wreck dives...... talk to Yves or Peter at Plunge Diving. for wrecks you will have to do boat dive but we dont really have any wrecks that are in recreational limits. the good wrecks are about 50mtrs/150ft

hope this helps,

cheers

oh

dive sites, it really depends on what you want to see

weedy sea dragons - Kurnell is a guarantee, dive with either Abyss or ShiprockDive (plus moray, frogfish, nudis, big blue gropers and all other kinds of fish)

Bare Island, big blue gropers, pygmie pipehorses, morays, red indian fish and maybe a weedy and all other types of fish and

Shelley Beach, my last dive there 2 weeks ago i had a eagle ray (VERY rare), a dozen small sting rays, 4 baby whaler sharks, fiddler ray and a angel shark plus lots of wobbegongs and fishlife

clifton gardens muck dive, baby morays, decorator crabs, pipefish, seashorses and angler fish

these are just a few shore dives... we have dozens

for weekend trips, i suggest 2.5hrs north to Nelson Bay or 90mins south to Shellharbour - great dive sites, both shore and boats. if Nelson Bay, shore dives can only be done on correct tides so check with prodive nelson bay before going there

cheers

heheheeh - my hubby actually instructs for frodgive guildford :D

reason i didnt mention froggies dive boat is because its a semi-rigid inflatable that does single dives only and i thought scubaroo or seatamer would offer a bit more comfort in terms of coffee and space ;)

I've just been staying with friends who live in Mosman. Every weekend whilst having breakfast at Balmoral they watch the Frogdive boat come in and drop off/pick up the divers there. They've been telling me about this for months. Last Sunday after breakfast at Balmoral, I saw them as well and spoke to a couple of them about the dives they were doing. Unfortunately I had to leave Australia on Wednesday and had my dive gear all clean and dry and couldn't dive anymore! Next time....

Plus when I flew back in from Cairns, the Sydney taxi driver I had was a diver. He told me he is an instructor at Frogdive as well -- small world!

last sunday??? my hubby was out on the 8am boat with his AOW students last sunday - and they say its a small world!

 your taxi driver was a instructor  i gotta check that one out to find him!

tomorrow is Froggies monthly bbq and its at Bare Island so im on the hunt :D

My friends' routine is to have breakfast at the cafe :coffee: on the jetty and then head to the play park near there with their 19 month old. I joined them and that's where you see the Froggies!

Yep it's a small world...I watched the boat come in from the 8:00 dive and reload for the 10:00/10:30 dive! I was very jealous :11: when I saw the boat leaving as if there's diving, I want to be involved.

My time in Sydney was limited on this past trip so I didn't try to contact anyone about diving. However, next time (Oct 09 -- if not before), I'll look into getting some Sydney-area dives in.

Have fun at the bbq!

Hi thanks for all the info...

Was checking out the Dive sites for Frog Dive Scuba center for this weekend:

Are any of these sites good for seeing sharks?

Saturday 19th April
7:30am The Himma 50m Long Reef
10am The Apartments 22m Long Reef
12md The Wall 22m Long Reef
Sunday 20th April
8am The Colours 30m Balmoral
10am Blue Fish 18m Balmoral
12 midday Old Mans Hat 18m Balmoral

Also Scubaroos have no dives this weekend..
Has anybody dived with both Frog Divers and Pro Divers?? Any preferences??
Thanks Again
