Just got certified, LDS has a package for:
Scubapro Classic Plus BCD + AIR2
MK25/S600 First & Second stages
SmartCom computer
Four classes including all dives
Free air fills for a year
$2200. Seems pretty good, the best I could find online is about $1800 for the above gear.

The whole packages comes to less than $1700 at LeisurePro. Only you can decide if the warranty and service convienience offered by the LDS is worth the extra money. The four classes and dives sounds like an advanced course, which in my area runs about $200. Free air is only a good deal if you plan on diving regularly and can use it. Does it include the use of a tank as well for free? Piece by piece, your package price bottom line isn't significantly higher than the net, considering the absolute lack of support you face without a warranty. The other side of the coin is that if you avoided ScubaPro entirely you could probably save a fair amount also but thats just my opinion.

Yes, the free air includes a tank.
Is scubapro stuff just overpriced? I thought they were the only company that had a lifetime warranty on parts?

I think Apeks also has a lifetime warantee. Of course they don't approve of internet sales either.

I don't see what the big deal is about free parts, its the cost for the labor that really adds up.

It's all nice stuff, and I'm very happy with my SmartCom, however if you buy Scubapro at LeisurePro (or online anywhere, or not from an authorized dealer), there are no free parts, so annual reg service will become quite expensive.

The battery for the SmartCom is a few hundred dollars if you don't have the free parts.

Four classes incl. dives sounds to me like FOUR advanced certs...At $100 apiece, that would make up the diff. you seem concerned about, and give him his warranty.

All looks good to me, except the Air2. You'll find a lot of posts on that particular subject. Personally, they are fix to a problem that does not exist.

Also, as for warranty parts, like others have said, many manufacturers give lifetime parts, it's the labor that is costly.

SP is not the only manufacturer that offers free parts for life. SP is, IMO, overpriced and they certainly have gone out of their way to punish customers that obtain their gear in a non traditional manner. A friend of mine was recently quoted a price of $400 for a battery replacement on a Uwatec computer he bought from LP (quote was from SP). By comparison, most Suunto dive computers have user replacable batteries. Using the internet as a basis for prices, since I don't know what kind of competing LDS' you have nearby, the SP reg you are looking at runs $390 at Leisurepro and could be compared to an Apeks ATX50 for $330 at Diveinn. The Apeks is also an enviromentally sealed cold water reg which eliminates a concern with the SP reg. The SP BC is $500 at Leisurepro which is a lot for a jacket BC (IMO) while a Zeagle Concept II back inflate is $350. There's a $210 diff just on those two items and the Zeagle gear can be purchased online with a warranty.

Looks like a good package. I tend to buy online but the air & classes bonus would put my $$ with the LDS. This looks like a shop that is finding ways to compete with the online sources.
