I am looking to learn to SCUBA. I was wondering if anyone can tell if 4 class room and pool sessions, class material, 4 open water dives, equipment rental and a 1 yr padi member ship for $450. 00 is a good deal or not? mask fins and snorkel not included.

Depends on a few things.... especially the location of the training dives.

Sounds a bit too high.

If you fill out your profile so we know where you are.... it would help.

I paid $400 for a private lesson in Maui. Group rates are about $250 there. Kinda steep sounding.

BTW I am in the south Burbs oif Chicago

I paid $379 for SSI OW certification.

Call around in your local area and see if prices from competitors are similar to the quote you recieved.

I got my training for $300 that included classroom, books, rentals and our open water classes where in Tobermoray. Fins, mask and snorkel were not included.

Hi,

Welcome and thanks for asking this question. It's one that has been bantered about but not in so many words. The real answer is, what is it worth to you for you to learn how to scuba dive safely and comfortable manner?

What I mean is, is this instructor going to just give you your certification and take your money or is the instructor going to ensure you actually know how to do what it is you are supposed be certified in?

I would suggest talking to the instructor in detail and find out what you get for your $450.00. If they give you the answer of "you get your certification so you can dive anywhere in the world", take your money and go someplace else. You want training for your money. Not just a learners permit. I think $450.00 is fair for real training, unless this is a private class, then it should be much higher.

... and a 1 yr padi membership

That's probably a one year membership in the PADI Diving Society, not a membership in PADI. That's $29, so you're actually paying $421 for class. Around here, $300 is about average (including books, etc.), though the entry fees for the Open Water dives are not included (around $40).

To answer your question. I want to learn how to dive and do it it right. This is a "PADI Career development center" And this is not private lessons that was quoted at like 600-some thing.
