Well, the watchword these days seems to be Economy, although I am sure few on this board have any concerns about watching their nickels and pesos:eyebrow:. With this in mind, I thought I would see what is recommended for cheap eats in Coz these days. We have our old favorites, like Chilango's for lunch, and of course, Las Seras (pastors, anyone? :kiss2:), but we have not been down there for about a year, and of course, things change. I thought I would stir the waters a bit and see if anyone has any fresh information for me:coffee:. All input will be greatly appreciated. Woody

McDonald's

Like here in the States, with the narrowing profit margins of premium brands like Starbucks, McDonald's sees increases. But wait, you said good.

DH and I usually economize by planning only one meal "out" per day and shopping at Chedraui or Mega. In fact, we have a standard and very specific shopping list of what we purchase for each trip. Breakfast is light, not only for the price but also for the meal itself as we are not big breakfast eaters, especially before diving. We usually keep on hand juice, milk, jelly in the small fridge or cooler. And then we keep bagels, crackers and cereal to make up quick and easy breakfasts. One morning per vacation on a non-dive morning we do like to try the breakfast buffet at Jeanies. Overall, we find the light breakfast in our room, then the fantastic SI snack provided by our dive op Blue XT Sea diving is perfect for us.

Lunch very often is sandwich, cheese, fruit (washed properly of course), chips/pretzel. We also keep all of this stuff in our room/condo as well. We actually much prefer to take this time, usually after diving in the morning to clean up, relax on the terrace or by the pool. Although, as mentioned, places like Chilangos, Sabores or any other comida economica are perfect for lunch. $5.00 -$7.00 pp is not bad at all, especially considering what you get for the price. We do enjoy a couple of lunches out such as Chilangos, Sorrisi's for a medium pizza or Asadero El Pollo on 30th for the chicken, which we bring back to our room.

Then, after we are rested, we spiffy up a bit and go out for a night out on the town to visit one of our favorite restaurants. DH and I have a list of must go places. Sorrisi's (Mussels Marinara with on site made fettuccine) , LaChoza, Kinta, and Wynstons for the Killer Crab Macaroni and Cheese and La Perlita on 65th (Try the seafood soup..OMG !!) Very often the entrees are very large and we share. Not only does this cut down on cost, but then there are no leftovers to deal with. If for some reason we find it is not enough, then we just order more, or grab a snack later either at another place around town or back at our room. All of these places actually have prices that compare to dinner out here in Austin. Neither DH and I are big on Alcohol/Drinks so by default we save a lot of $$ there. Although, we do make our donation to that cause on our visit to the East side as long as our diving schedule allows the indulgence. Nothing like iced buckets of Sol, lying in a hammock and looking out at that beautiful view :D

Hope this helps. Have a great time ! Sue

Short list....

Papa Hogs, Rendez Blu (Blue Angel resort), Rock-n-Java, Casa Denis, Guito's for pizza, salad & sangria, Ernesto's fajita factory, Jeannies waffels, El Moro, the museum for breakfast or lunch, all quite reasonable.

Los Otates
Parilla Mission on 30th

Sabores has always been one of our lunch favorites. They do a delicious Chuletas Yucateca, and the prices are dirt cheap for what you get. Like Sue Sue, we tend to do a meal in, a meal out. Last trip, and next trip we have breakfast included at Fiesta Americana, otherwise we pick up some pastries when shopping, and always bring some power bars and nuts, etc with us. We'll do lunch out - somewhere like Sabores, then hit the grocery store for cheese, meats, some good crackers, etc. and a bottle of wine for dinner; or we eat lunch in -cold cuts, etc. kept in cooler or fridge - and then do dinner out, and hit the grocery store for supplies for the next day. Our favorite dinner place is La Mission Parilla back on 30th - amazingly inexpensive! We'll also do one nice dinner - somewhere like Kinta or Primas ...

We like to pick up a chicken at one of the rotisserie places on 30th on our way back to the condo after our morning dives. We have our favorite but can't remember the cross street. A whole chicken is less than $5 and comes with tortilla and either rice or pasta. It's enough for 2 lunches.
