Good Advice Needed

Hi All,

I'm new to SB and I have some travel plans coming up and I need advice.
I'm grateful for all constructive input.

Here's the breakdown...

I am traveling to the Bahamas in two weeks via a Carnival cruise ship. I'm interested in doing some diving and I'd like to know if I'm better off booking on my own, or through the shore excursion provided. No info on it yet. I would also like to know all I can about the rules regarding personal dive gear. what I can bring, what arrangements need to be made etc. Any info on Carnival's reputation in this field would be helpful as well. I'm an advanced open water diver, so I'd like information as well on some of the sites and shops around Nassau.

Back in 2008 I was on a cruise with Carnival that stopped at Nassau, Bahamas. We did a two tank dive (through Carnival) while there. We were put on a boat with "crusiers" from other ships so we had to wait for the (12 total divers) others to arrive. The first dive was "Trinity Caves" (which aren't caves) with 47 ft. max for 37 mins. Second dive was "Light House Dive" 38 ft. for 39 mins. and was just outside of the harbor. All in all it was some pretty lame diving but it beat walking around shopping in the tourist traps . The main reason I went with the Carnival excursion is they are responsible to get you back to your ship on time where if you charter on your own and you are late getting back to your ship for any reason, you are responsible for your travel.
