Gonna Buy A New Reg, Need ADVICE

Hey all,

Im a new diver in Ontario, Canada and Im currently diving with a Sherwood Brut regulator. Ive been hearing all this rave about the Apeks reg line, so Im thniking about grabbing one off the diveinn site. The only one that I can afford right now is the Apeks ATX 40, and I can only find one place in Toronto that services this line. So, my question is a) Is this reg (even though it seems to be classified as an octopus) a good reg for COLD water diving in Ontario Lakes? b) maintenance heavy compared to the Sherwood line? c) compatable with my hoses from my Brut setup (I still wanna use my console and Octopus from the Brut)? d) usually tuned and usable right out the box through DiveInn?

As well, DiveInn offers the purchase of the 1st stage alone. I was thinking about buying the Apeks DS4 1st stage, and having my Brut 2nd stage hooked into it. Is this smart or not?

Jack the ATX-40 is a very good reg and it is good for coldwater. I have an ATX-40 as my backup reg and it breathes about as good as my TX-50 primary. Only difference between the 40 and 50 is the adjustment knob on the second stage.

comes in both normal regulator and octo configs...

diveinn had the ds4/tx40 for 133.00... add an octo and you'd be all set.

I agree with GP, I have an ATX 40 as an octo, and it works great!
