Whilst I was away my girlfriend was doing some research into doing her o/w so she could join me in future. She was doing some research and one shop told her she should train with them because then she would get a Gold C-Card!

What complete and utter bunkum! Please don't anyone fall for that one.

Unless I've truely been asleep a c-card is a c-card is a c-card! The colours only indicate what type of training establisment it is - 5 Star, Palm Resort etc and is not indicative of the training you will get (other than the hard sell apparently!)

But if you do a course through a 5 Star or a PADI IDC Development centre you get a pretty gold C Card

Sounds like they are desperate for business if they are using the old "you get a gold card here line"

Some people will do anything for money. Just tell your girlfriend you will paint her new one gold for her.

don't worry I know it was bull - the problem is she didn't. Just wanted to make sure no-one else would fall for that line!

If she's serious about it I know where she will be going to learn, just glad she did not splash out money whilst I was away.

Yes, and most people actually think the 5 stars is a rating system (it is not).

But I have a gold card from a 5 Star PADI center AND HAVE MY AOW.

That makes me an ADVANCED diver.......doesn't it.

Ok just kidding, did you here about the pirate that went into the bar with a steering wheel in his pants.....

He Said (in his best Pirate voice) Arrrr Its drivin Me Nuts

SSI also has "Gold" cards. But they actually mean something. The "Gold 500" card is available to divers who have over 500 logged dives; the "Gold 500 Instructor" is issued to instructors who have over 500 instructor experience points (an internal SSI rating system to track instructor experience).

It would be nice to have a quick way to determin experience but even log books dont tell the whole story.
