i did phuket 2 christmas ago and after the first dive i tagged along with anyone as i had a camera and flitted between groups on our boat.
once my brother had done his OW and AOW then they let him dive with me and we went off on our own, and usually ended up criss crossing the other groups while looking for stuff to photograph.
we used marina divers in kata as they seemed to have all the boats and a lot of the other dive shops used them.
